In Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), a membrane is a thin flexible layer—often made of rubber, silicone, or polyurethane—used mainly in ultrasonic testing (UT) to provide a coupling medium between the transducer and the test surface. It helps transmit ultrasonic waves efficiently while protecting the probe from heat, roughness, or contamination.

TR probes are used in ultrasonic testing to send and receive sound waves for evaluating material integrity. They are ideal for detecting internal flaws, measuring thickness, inspecting welds, and monitoring corrosion in metals and composites. Their separate transmitter and receiver improve sensitivity and resolution in flaw detection.
